HUNDREDS of the empty water & ration bins were stored there. A neat memory of the time were the paper 'blankets' also on hand, one of which still sits framed on my wall... A shame local politics have reduced this to nothing more than a hole for a water main. The original intent of the 1927 rapid transit loops was to combine and merge with the interurban and streetcar lines. As mentioned in the above article, the stub tracks beneath the stairs were for interurbans/streetcars. Would it likely be used to support a new streetcar system? Probably noty, but using the smaller streetcar rolling stock would be a great way to use these tunnels without the huge cost of removing the existing infrastructure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-81281816692049272202009-03-09T20:45:00.000-04:002009-03-09T20:45:00.000-04:00These tunnels will never be used to extend any str...These tunnels will never be used to extend any streetcar lines as the point of streetcars are to be neighborhood circulators that have quick and easy access for its riders.

Light rail would be a more appropriate use as the grade separation is highly desired for faster travel speeds and safer travel through city neighborhoods.Randy Simeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14272257274373604807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-80468959194379482502009-03-09T20:39:00.000-04:002009-03-09T20:39:00.000-04:00Thanks for reading everyone!Beth, thanks for point...Thanks for reading everyone!

Beth, thanks for pointing out who made that mural, it's very well done!

I wonder if they would ever use these tunnels to extend a streetcar/rail line out towards Price Hill.
