[Views of Cincinnati] Captain Ross

#28 - Captain Ross

Midwestern redness sunset on Cincinnati. Taken from a bridge in Fort Thomas, KY. named in memorial to Captain Joseph Shaw Ross. I find it only fitting that this photograph in the series be dedicated to him as well.

The plaque on the side of the bridge reads:

Capt. Joseph Shaw Ross Bridge.
Born: Jan. 26, 1943 Died: Aug. 1, 1968
A Fort Thomas native and Air Force Academy Graduate, Joe Ross was listed as missing in action in 1968 while on duty in Vietnam. After a 10 year wait by family and friends, he was officially declared killed in action in 1977. This bridge is dedicated to Joe Ross and to all Vietnam veterans.
Dedicated October 29, 1979
Julian M. Carrol, Governor

The bridge under construction. From NKYviews.com:

I pass under the bridge every time I go to NKU and despite having lived in a Fort Thomas apartment for nearly two years now, had never crossed it until the other day.

I can't imagine what it must've been like serving in that war, let alone what his family went through waiting to hear anything of what happened. I do hope that they realize though, that every time someone stops to read that plaque - they're thinking of Capt. Ross, his family and his friends. I know I will every time I pass under that bridge from now on.
