I never minded the gas station prices if I was in a hurry, but if I'm making the effort to go to the grocery store, I'm gonna chose whichever has the best prices. Had I not know their decade-long failures, I would've thought it was a normal store - shelves stocked well, reasonable amount of associates, decent variety of stuff, clean, etc. The garden center area was closed off, the blue light special things lacked any actual blue light, there were no fridges except one by the registers for impulse buys (the minimal beer selection was warm) but besides that, it was respectable. The prices seemed more like a gas station - the only prices I have memorized are for Haribo Gummy Bears ($1 on sale anywhere else - at KMart, $2.29), and maybe Budweiser Beer 12 pack cans ($9.49-10.49 anywhere else, $12.49 at K, and warm). So that seemed a bit odd. I wanted to buy SOMETHING, so I put my wisdom from buying stuff at random corner carryouts to work - nobody can mark up the price on an Arizona Ice Tea/drink since the 99¢ price is printed ON THE ACTUAL CAN, so no price nazis can mark the thing up ;) So I left with an Arizona Fruit Punch, and a marked down bag of Herr's 3oz dissapointing flavor, er, I mean Deep Dish Pizza flavor cheese puffs marked down at 64¢. I went to KMart expecting (and perhaps hoping to witness) a train wreck. What I saw, if their almost all consuming collapse hadn't occurred, was a store that would be welcome in any city, honestly.Digital Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11782507961551502030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-29165403043124644532014-03-09T20:14:01.926-04:002014-03-09T20:14:01.926-04:00We moved from Deer Park to The Goshen/Milford area...We moved from Deer Park to The Goshen/Milford area when I was a child, the Kmart on St Rt 28 was the store of choice that my parents shopped at. I can remember the store going thru numerous renovations thru the years. When I was in high school I always used the Kmart lay-a-way. And I'm sure several students from all the local school districts worked at the store through the years. It closed several years ago and the building still sits empty as does the adjoining strip mall that thru the years has housed a hair salon, TCBY, General Dollar and a fitness center for women ( I can't remember the name). There was also a Thriftway right next store that was built new in 1983/84, it has also since closed but it has another business there. It is sad to see a business that was so necessary for our communities closed and nothing different in its place at that location. Of course this pre-dates the one being built in Blue Ash very near your abandoned Arby's. I spent quite a bit of time in this K-Mart shopping with parents, siblings and grandparents. It did originally have a K-Mart Service Center out front. I am always amazed at the lack of re-purposing in favor of building new buildings.Mikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-47008036630033842332013-06-01T23:01:56.565-04:002013-06-01T23:01:56.565-04:00There are still K-Mart stores in Australia; they n...There are still K-Mart stores in Australia; they never went away and seem to be doing quite well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-246082951277012542013-05-31T10:00:54.627-04:002013-05-31T10:00:54.627-04:00Originally this was two separate stores, IGA occup...Originally this was two separate stores, IGA occupied the left 35-40% of the building from the 70s(?) until 1993. K-Mart declined to renew their lease in 1993 and then took over their space, expanding to fill the entire building.Chrisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7812116909571848352.post-56988084494708865872013-05-31T08:32:40.084-04:002013-05-31T08:32:40.084-04:00There's still a Kmart off Beechmont Ave and I&...There's still a Kmart off Beechmont Ave and I've visited once.
